The Partnership is continuing to grow and its presence is now more widely felt within the communities of both Royston and Carlton. This is mainly due to contact being made with local community groups who are now taking active roles in planning and decision making. The Partnership can assist groups by providing some administrative assistance with provision of services such as photocopying, scanning and fax facilities.

Membership of the Partnership is free of charge and is available to all individuals, local businesses or community groups within Royston and Carlton. A Community Partnership is a voluntary body of local people whose aim is to improve the community in which they live. Most partnerships are registered charities. They are not political bodies nor are they extensions of local or central government. Community Partnerships have sprung up throughout most of the borough of Barnsley. They were formed after the demise of the local coal industry by people who were disillusioned by the general decline of the area. These people got their heads together and decided they wanted to do something to improve the quality of life for themselves and their neighbours.

Royston and Carlton Community Partnership was formed in 1994, becoming a registered charity in November 1995. Since then it has gone from strength to strength.
